Understanding of justice, healing, conflict resolution, and mentoring concepts.
Ability to work as part of a larger team, but also to work independently
Strong project management skills. Experience managing budgets preferred.
The selected candidate must be based in New York
Fluency in a Middle Eastern/South Asian language is a plus
Experience working with Middle Eastern/South Asian communities is a plus
Must be willing to start June 1, 2017
WISE is a leading grassroots organization dedicated to the empowerment of young Muslim women through dialogue and skills training. Primarily, we facilitate psychosocial support groups and train Muslim women in self defense. Our goal is to empower young Muslim women to be able to confront both gender based and anti-Muslim violence.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Facilitate empowerment and organizing programs across New York City
Facilitate monthly meetings with member mosques, and hold office hours at multiple locations each week for fellows and leadership team members
Manage existing projects and coordinate logistics for workshops, team meetings and other events
Represent WISE priorities at coalition meetings, and in local and citywide policy initiatives
Engage WISE members to create a community-based vision of organizing efforts
Help develop individual work plan and annual organizational goals
Contribute to the development and implementation of an effective external communications strategy to elevate this work through social media, blogs, storytelling, op-eds, etc.
