Amnesty International USA Tactical Safety and Security Training

  • 5 Pennsylvania Plaza New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

Amnesty International USA and WISE are hosting a training for tactical safety and security. Join the Amnesty USA Tactical Safety and Security Team and WISE Founder, Rana Abdelhamid for an opportunity for healing and training for improving and understanding individual and community security and protection.

Protesting in the streets has been a proven tactic to build power, momentum and community around human rights issues in the US and abroad. Do you know what you need to do to ensure your safety and the safety of your affinity group if things pop off at a protest? Come to this workshop to learn about basic protest safety approaches and how to integrate a situational awareness lens when you are on the ground.

The situational awareness training is essentially a tool that Kalay'an Mendoza has developed with frontline organizers in India and Taiwan to support them in their work in a crisis or potentially dangerous situation. He has found it to be a necessary tool in his own survival as a Queer Person of Color and has been one of the primary components in trainings Amnesty International USA has facilitated for the Human Rights Observer Delegations.
